Plague of babies!
15th-Sep-2008 04:58 pm
We took Hamish out for his first outside jaunt yesterday, off to my brother's 33rd birthday dinner. We figured if things went pearshaped, we could always beg off from the bbq and flee back the 20 mins home. As it turned out, things were fine. We got there and fed him, and he went to sleep for another 2.5 hrs. With, of course, at least 30 mins of aunt and grandmother cuddling before being put down. There was a veritable plague of babies there - Hamish's cousins Sophie & Samuel, and his cousin-in-law Aiden, who is only 4 weeks old himself.

It was weird to look at Samuel - we haven't seen him for a while, and he's gigantic. At 8 or 9 months old, he just looks so much more robust than Hamish, who I'm still worried about accidentally crushing or mishandling.

I'm trying to organise getting to work for a bit this week, mostly to stretch leave out rather than achieve terribly much :-) but there are a couple of tasks hanging over me too. So I'm trying to pick times where there's not baby appointments or random acts of weather where I can nick off for 5 or 6 hours and touch base at work. (and hey, you know, maybe set a vacation message, which lotus won't let me do remotely as best as I can tell).

We've started fighting with centrelink about the baby bonus. Its not that there's been any arguments, its just that if I had to categorise the process of using their website, the only word that comes to mind is "fight". Its a world of pain to even sign up, let alone try and navigate. Javascript everywhere that goes spaz and kills the whole process. Oh look their internal proxies have died. Sod it, it can wait.

For those with an insatiable urge for photos, I've made a gallery for Hamish, and I'll prob put them up there now rather than linking into lj so much:

No, Notes won't let you set an out of office remotely (unless you have a local replica) but your friendly Notes admin can do it for you.

These would be the people who converted me to notes despite being told not to on three occasions? pass.

Haha! My mum told me the other day that one of the great things about going to a party as a new parents (with the baby) is that you end up getting a break, as there'll be about 50 people offering to look after bub (read: have a cuddle) for you!

This conversation came about, btw, as one of my friends who came to my Kitchen Tea Party had her 4 week old daughter with her. It absolutely nothing to do with me having babies any time soon.

eheheh, especially a family party, where you can say "here, take this" and run.

Mental note: Buy running shoes for Glenn for his buck's night present.

Apparently one has to do the centrelink dance... I am just doing what the pieces of paper tell me.

Babies are pretty hardy - they have to be, otherwise the human race would have died out long ago. :-) I'm sure you're both doing a terrific job.

Do they bounce? lets find out :)

There's an Invader Zim episode called "Plague of Babies". I'm sure you're glad to know this.

Thus Liz and me saying "Hullo Baby!" and waving like mad things at Hamish :)
