Before I left the Union Building was literally flooding.

Ankle deep water was creeping in the northern door... then I noticed that water was coming out the light fixtures; that made me realize that I was on the ground floor so who knows what the fist floor was like. However, I did see that water was coming down the stairs like a waterfall.

All in all, I think there's going to be some serious damage to that building.

Woah, that's pretty extreme.
I wonder how much of the brand new renovations got destroyed

I wish I could have seen water coming down the stairs like a waterfall ... I would have then closed my eyes and pretended it was 'The Shining' :D

The roof fell in on the Union, apparently...

We're in Bundaberg at the moment, and it's mercifully nice weather. Not too hot, and even though it's the wet season it's dry at the moment -- too dry, of course. Not enough water to go around.

Only got a vague reference to the rains in the news yesterday - how widespread was it? Should we be worried about the house being washed down the hill? :)

We got a monsoon :) The Age has some more photos.

I'm pretty sure your place was well to the north - it was pretty much Mount Waverley down to Frankeston that got really kicked in Melbourne. There was non-insignificant amount of rain to the north too, but it wasn't black on the rain radar there... :)

If you're really worried, we could organise to go look?

Thanks, but Rachel's mum is feeding Billy (assuming he isn't washed away) and I'm sure she'd tell us if the house wasn't there any more :)

It sounds like it would have been absolutely beautiful to behold if only it didn't make me nervous about climate change. Was it warm at the same time? I remember running around outside in a hurricaine in New Orleans when it was still really warm, it was fantastic.
