Most people probably know that I get about on my bike most of the time. Most people also know I am cursed... CURSED I TELL YOU... when it comes to bikes. I've had frames crack in half, brake cables snap, and tires explode so loud that pedestrians threw themselves to the ground in shock.
My current bike has been a world of pain. I've spent easily 3* what it cost in incremental repairs over the 5-7 years I've had it. Spokes, mostly, but also some exciting crashes.
So... sitting at the lights near work, waiting to do a u-turn and a gap appears. I stand on the pedals and get moving and there is a strange pop sound, and suddenly the gears are being strange. Dammit, this has been happening this week and getting worse, but this is ridiculous, argh there's a car coming, I manage to get off the road and glance at the back wheel, which is being very odd. Oh.
I have broken the axel. It appears to have snapped due to metal fatigue. This a) explains a lot of the weirdness that only occured when I was riding it, and b) is the second time I've had the rear axel break on this bike.
I was hoping nothing else would go wrong until I could replace the whole bike, but this is unusable, so its probably back to the shop it goes....
