Stop the filter- Melbourne Event
Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010
Time: 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Location: State Library

Description
Stop the Filter is organising an event to express our opposition to the introduction of a compulsory national internet filter.

It will be held at the State Library on Saturday March 6th at 12 noon, which is the National Day of Action initiated by Block the Filter.

This will be a peaceful event and we are going to have speakers from different organisations to discuss why the filter wont work, as well as some performers and plenty of information handouts.

This event is for EVERYONE! to show the Labor government that this filter will not stand, that it will hurt all Australian people, and thus all of us from different backgrounds and different political beliefs are uniting to oppose it.

Confirmed Speakers:
Dr. Richard Di Natale, Greens candidate for the Senate.
Sarah Jenkins, Australian Sex Party
Corey Oakley, Socialist Alternative
Colin Jacobs, Electronic Frontiers Australia
Lindy Boyd, Exit international
David Crafti, Pirate Party

I know this is cynical, but does the absence of anyone from the Labor Party suggest that they might just possibly completely ignore this? Just like the last such protest against internet filtering was completely ignored by the Liberals when they brought in their legislation?

They've ignored _everything_ else that anyone has said about it, so no real surprise. I'm not actually expecting this to influence a politician - what I am hoping is that it makes the issue a little bit more prominent in the minds of J Random public who comes past.

Sounds like great fun. I'll be out of town, so I'll miss it, but I think that it is a great idea.

Speak the truth, even when everyone has stopped listening.

I want to, but I have to be at a wedding.
